Private Blog Networks Get Deindexed

Blog networks get deindexed

Last week there was quite a buzz in the niche site community as the most recent Google Panda update targeted private blog networks.  Sites like Build My Rank, which was very popular had to shut its doors.  Google completely de-indexed their entire private blog networking making all its backlinks essentially useless.

More sites are expected to be affected so keep this in mind if you are currently using one of these networks for backlinks.

Another issue that has been becoming more apparent as of late is Google seems to be suspending Adsense accounts.  Many of the people affected claimed they did nothing wrong and were quite upset over this abrupt decision.  This is just one more reason why I am planning to diversify my sites across different advertising platforms.  Not sure what these will be yet as I have not researched this too much.  I hope to have more information on this in the upcoming weeks.

Update

Looking back I can’t believe I was surprised by this. After this loophole was left open for many years I’m not at all shocked Google decided to remedy this. Build quality sites with organic SEO methods and this will not affect you.

I too had Google accounts cancelled, first Adwords for some unknown infringment that they refused to explain. Closely followed by Adsense who stated after I complained that I was not using their service enough to be a benifit to their advertizers. So I totally agree with your idea to diversify.

Yea, the BMR smackdown hit me really hard. I had several of my own sites that heavily relied on it, and I used it for a few of my clients, as well. I, for one, was putting completely legitimate posts on it, the same kind of stuff I’d put on my own sites. I guess I should have seen it coming, though – there were just so many spammers. What’s that saying about you being the sum total of the five people you spend the most time with? I guess that kind of thinking applies to your SEO strategies, as well. Any tips on how to do whitehat marketing that WON’T eventually get abused and devalued by Google?

That stinks that with a quick stroke of some code, Google essentially can wipe out entire companies. I guess when you’re that big, you don’t realize (or care) how many small businesses are riding your coat tails. Such is business though.
